Axie Infinity is a blockchain-based gaming ecosystem featuring digital creatures called Axies. Players can battle, collect, and breed these NFT pets while earning cryptocurrency rewards. The ecosystem includes multiple games like Axie Infinity: Origins and Axie Infinity: Classic, built on the Ronin blockchain. Axies are digital collectibles that grant access to various games and features within the ecosystem.
Axie Infinity: Classic is the original turn-based card battler released in December 2019 that requires owning at least three blockchain Axies. Origins is the evolved version released in April 2022, featuring free starter Axies, a real-time combat system, and vertical progression through Rune & Charm crafting. Origins introduces new mechanics like Energy Burst and Meta Morph, while Classic maintains traditional gameplay with features like the Cursed Coliseum mode and Guild Wars.
For Axie Infinity: Origins, you can play for free using starter Axies provided by the game. These free starter Axies allow new players to experience the game without purchasing NFT Axies. For Axie Infinity: Classic, you need at least three blockchain Axies in your Ronin wallet to play. Alternatively, you can participate through a scholarship program where managers lend their Axies to scholars.
A scholarship is when a manager (player who owns extra Axies) lends their Axies to a scholar (new player without Axies). The scholar plays the game using the manager's Axies and earns rewards like SLP and AXS. Earnings are typically split between the manager and scholar based on agreed percentages, commonly 60/40 or 50/50. With the new Axie Delegation feature, managers can now delegate up to 20 Axies directly through App.axie for periods ranging from 1 day to 1 year.
To become a scholar, search for managers or guilds hiring scholars through platforms like Discord, Twitter, Reddit, or the official Axie Scholar Pages database. Contact managers expressing your interest and gaming experience. Many guilds have application processes requiring you to fill out forms with your information. Once accepted, the manager will delegate Axies to your wallet address, allowing you to start playing and earning rewards according to your agreed split arrangement.
Ronin is an Ethereum sidechain specifically designed for Axie Infinity and the broader gaming ecosystem. It was created by Sky Mavis to enable near-instant transactions with negligible fees, allowing millions of in-game micro-transactions to occur seamlessly. Ronin eliminates the high gas fees associated with Ethereum, making it economical for players to transfer assets, trade Axies, and play games within the ecosystem.
The Ronin Wallet is a specialized cryptocurrency wallet for the Ronin blockchain, available as a browser extension and mobile app. It allows you to store Wrapped Ether (WETH), AXS, SLP, USDC, and RON tokens. You use it to interact with Axie Infinity games, the marketplace, and other DApps on Ronin. The wallet enables 100 free transactions per day and can be connected to exchanges like Binance for direct deposits and withdrawals without high Ethereum gas fees.
AXS is the governance token of the Axie Infinity ecosystem, launched in November 2020 as an ERC-20 token. AXS holders can participate in governance decisions through the Axie Governance Portal, stake their tokens to earn rewards, and use AXS for breeding Axies. Players can earn AXS by ranking high on seasonal leaderboards, completing Bounty Board quests, and participating in competitive tournaments. AXS can be stored in any ERC-20 compatible wallet or your Ronin wallet.
SLP is an ERC-20 utility token with unlimited supply that players earn by completing battles and quests in Axie Infinity. In Classic, players earn SLP through Arena Mode ranked battles and the Cursed Coliseum. In Origins, SLP can be earned through the new Gauntlet Mode. SLP is primarily used for breeding new Axies and is burned when used for breeding. Players can trade SLP on exchanges like Binance or swap it on Katana DEX within the Ronin ecosystem.
RON is the ecosystem token of the Ronin blockchain used to pay gas fees and secure the network for Axie Infinity and future games on the chain. While Ronin currently offers 100 free transactions per day, RON will eventually be required for all transactions. RON ensures Ronin remains a community-owned blockchain. It can be earned by providing liquidity on Katana DEX and is tradeable on the platform.
In Origins, you can earn rewards through multiple methods: competing in ranked Arena Mode for AXS prizes based on leaderboard rankings, completing daily and weekly Bounty Board quests for AXS rewards from a weekly prize pool of 26,500 AXS, playing Gauntlet Mode to earn SLP, and progressing through the Account Level Reward System to unlock cosmetics, Moonshards, and starter Axies. Mystic Axie holders receive additional benefits and boosted rewards.
In Classic, you earn rewards through Arena Mode (75 AXP per win above 800 MMR), participating in the Cursed Coliseum for AXP and Gold rewards, completing Tower Mode PvE challenges, and participating in the Competitive Circuit including Guild Wars and Season Championships. The Battle Pass system rewards active PvP players who reach trophy milestones. Maximum AXP cap is 12,500 per Axie per day across all game modes.
The Bounty Board is a daily reward system in App.axie offering players chances to earn from a weekly 26,500 AXS prize pool. There are two types: Standard Bounty Board where you complete up to four bounties daily and claim rewards weekly, and Premier Bounty Board where completing over 100 bounties earns more AXS. Players can use Fortune Slips (obtained from collectible Axies) to re-roll bounties and enhance their rewards.
Part Evolution is a feature in Origins that allows players to transform and upgrade their collectible Axie cards by consuming materials obtained from releasing other Axies. This creates a deflationary mechanism where Axies are burned for evolution materials. Meta Morph Mechanics enable players to transform their collectible Axie cards during battles, ensuring they're not limited to the same cards in the arena and adding strategic depth to gameplay.
The Cursed Coliseum is a PvP game mode in Classic where players compete in sessions aiming for 7 victories with a maximum of 2 losses allowed. Before each match, one of your Axies is randomly "cursed," requiring you to replace two of its parts with randomized alternatives. Each win earns 150 AXP per Axie and Guild Points. Completing a session with 7 wins can earn Coliseum Chests containing Artifacts or Golden Wheel Spin Tickets.
